New CD release from ”Kapellet” with Johan E. Andersson, vibraphone and Nils Personne, soprano saxophone and bass clarinet.
Despite the title, this CD is recorded in the mornings the past year. We have unconditionally entered the studio and improvised. We have relied entirely on our mutual communication and our listening.
The only thing we have in advance agreed on is to not be in a hurry and to allow the music to take time and be left in slowness. Along the way, a musical concept formed with supporting ingredients like pause, sparsity, sound quality and the courage to play quiet.
The album was recorded at ”Kapellet”. It is a room with a unique atmosphere. Earlier, it was a funeral chapel belonging to Sabbatsbergs hospital and a place of the last farewell. Today it is used as an instrument building workshop and recording studio.
Johan E. Andersson is a composer, percussionist, music instrument builder and sound artist. He builds and invents musical instruments and composes music for dance performances, silent movie and theatre. He also runs the ”the Chapel”, where a variety of musical activities goes on.
Nils Personne is a composer, musician and sound artist. He has composed music for 60 theatre performances. He is one of the initiators of the klezmer group "Sabbath all week" and contributed as a musician in a variety number of recordings and concerts.
They have worked together for almost 10 years in various projects. Everything from concerts to workshops. In 2010, they performed a Johan E. Andersson specially composed piece for Nicolai ruin in Visby. In 2012 they built "the Gigantophone": a 14 meter long percussion instruments placed in the garden of the museum of modern art in Stockholm.
